Simone looked up from her math worksheet homework. “Did Boss get back from the Austin Film Festival yet?”
Trevor nodded, looking over the book he was reading for English. “Yeah, but it wasn’t good news. I heard parts when he told Annie. He tried to be upbeat, but I could tell he was bummed at not making the final cut.”
“What exactly was he doing there? Did it have anything to do with the last two weeks and his endless practicing to see if his speech fit under ninety seconds?”
“Yeah. Boss had me time him so many times. Once, when he exceeded the time, he said his smartphone was wrong. He let me use his favorite watch with the second hand.”
“Did it help?”
“Not really. He got mad at the watch for being too fast. I never told you, but selling that screenplay of Out of Poland to a film producer is a dream he’s had for a few years.”
“Oh. How did this event get to be so important?”
“He submitted it to the thirtieth Austin Film Festival judges months ago. He’d about given up, then out of the blue came this email that had him so jazzed that he made nearly everyone read it to make certain he wasn’t hallucinating.
