Simone felt the car slowing, and the images out the window cleared. She leaned over to her brother. “Trevor, why are we stopping on the side of the highway? Did we break down?”

“No.” He pointed toward the windshield. “Someone else did. See the large lady waving her arms and yelling into her cell phone?”

“She’s walking this way.”

“Yep, and she’s using her hands. I hope Boss doesn’t get whacked by her accidentally if he gets out to help.”

“Maybe she’s calling a tow truck or a family member, so Boss can get going again? I’m not too fond of this sitting on the highway. When the cars whoosh by, it makes ours sway. It scares me, Trevor.” Leaning a little closer, she whispered, “And I have to go to the bathroom.”

“You need to try to hold it, Simone.” He patted her hand. “I never told you, but Boss has always been like this. Stopping to help a stranded motorist is what people used to do no matter what. Now folks are too busy to stop and assist. He maintains if you help others, it builds up good karma you might need someday.”

“Wow.” Simone nodded, feeling proud of Boss. “That’s a nice thing for Boss to do even if he doesn’t need help from them. I had no idea. Can you only get karma changing tires on the side of the road like Boss looks like he’ll do now that he opened her trunk?”
