Simone held out a stack of her purchases, added a beaming smile, and said, “Trevor, look how many comic books I got for a dollar. Some look brand new, but others look old and brown. The store owner even helped me pick them out. The owner suggested I read them and decide which series to start collecting.”

Trevor grinned and thumbed through a few. Then he looked into her eyes with a grin and announced, “I never told you, but Boss used to deal in old and collectible comic books. The story goes that he bought investment-grade comics originally from the 1940s and 50s and resold them. He was doing good at it until he wasn’t.”

Simone opened her eyes, feeling surprised. “What do you mean?”

Trevor shrugged and shifted his feet. “One guy he dealt with got greedy and sold Boss a Marvel comics #1, which should have been worth a thousand dollars. Boss couldn’t sell it because it was missing pages, so it was worth almost nothing. Rather than getting mad, he traded it to someone who had a full book but no cover. That guy got the full book. The rare comics he got in return let Boss and his partner set up Austin Books.”

Simone gasped and faced her brother. “You mean Boss was a comic bookstore owner too? I didn’t know that. What happened to the store?”
