Simone wiped the tears from her eyes and whimpered, “Trevor, what a poor doggie. He’s nothing but skin and bones. What happened to him that he has no fur?”
Trevor felt sad about his sister’s tears. “Boss and Annie were walking and saw him staggering around. Boss went and got a leash to lead him here. He said the poor, disoriented pup didn’t try to run or resist the collar. Even walking slow, he stumbled a bit. He has almost no fur because he starved. Puppies lose weight fast in the summer heat.”
“What’s the matter with his elbows?” Simone sobbed. “Those pads are the size of my hand. I wonder if they hurt him.”
Trevor sniffled. “I think everything must hurt the puppy and he hasn’t had a nice bed to sleep on. I never told you, but Boss has rescued several rejected animals. When he got this boy home, he called the vet to get him seen right away. Boss was pretty upset that day ’cause no vet had any free time. Finally, he found a vet 40 minutes away who promised to work him in. Boss left work. He had to lift the Doberman into his truck and carry him into the doctor’s office. Boss said he felt frail when he held him.”
“Look at how much water he is drinking. Strike that, gulping. He didn’t eat all the food in the bowl you filled.”
“Boss said the poor thing was dehydrated as well as malnourished. We went and got…
