I Never Told You But

Holding her backpack, Simone struggled to pass the truck parked in the driveway, then wrestled through the front door and into the hallway packed with unwrapped toys. Tiptoeing by the last of the packages, she exclaimed, “Trevor, what happened here? Are we a staging warehouse for Santa? What is with all these toys and mountain of wrapping paper with bows?”
Trevor turned after setting down more stuff, appearing exhausted. “Boss got a bonus from work and ordered a truckload of toys. Then he cleared the Dollars & Sense store of all their Christmas paper, tissue, and ribbons. We’ve been unloading this stuff for hours. I’m so glad you’re finally here to help.”
Simone moaned as she shrugged off her coat and slung her backpack onto the table. “We have to wrap our presents? We’ll know what we’re going to get. How is that going to be fun on Christmas Day?”
Trevor cleared his throat. “Uh…these aren’t for us, Sis.” He waved his hands over the enormous pile. “I never told you, but Boss likes to buy a bunch of toys for kids in the cancer hospital. Their families are so focused on their children’s health and paying the medical bills that gifts are often forgotten. Boss likes to take as many toys as his bonus will buy so children will have something to unwrap and smile about.”
