I Never Told You But…

Simone pulled back her thick, brown waves into a scrunchie to keep it out of the way while poking around in the storage area. “Trevor, why is there so much furniture, especially chairs, in this house. A new chair shows up every time I turn around.”
Trevor adjusted his glasses and chuckled. “I’ve never told you, Boss is a scavenger. He complains that people don’t repair things; they throw them out. For trash collection, people leave chairs, tables, pictures, and even whole bed frames tossed to the curb. Most looked like fodder for firewood when he lugged it home. Boss and his best friend, Annie, carried a curio cabinet home a couple of years ago.”
Simone’s eyes widened as she caught the sparkle off glass as the sun caught the reflection. “You mean that funny-shaped cabinet with all those special glass panes was on the road? It’s magnificent. Nobody even wanted to try putting it in a garage sale. I don’t understand why folks don’t try to donate things like that rather than sending it to the dump.”
Trevor looked disappointed and nodded in agreement. “It’s wrong. Boss says that there’s a law in France that if something is repairable, they must mend it.”
Simone gasped. “You can be arrested if you throw out fixable stuff? Really? That’s nuts.”
