Simone pointed toward the green triangle, erratically moving in the blustery currents. “Look, Trev, how high it is. I never liked the wind ’cause it blows my hair all funny. Then it hurts when Annie or Boss brush the tangles out.”

Trevor grinned and patted her on the head. “See, didn’t I tell you that this blue sky and puffy white clouds needed some color? Nothing like a bright green Alien kite to brighten up the skyline.”

“Trev, help me with this string. The wind is so strong that the kite pulls hard like it’s fighting to escape. The line is starting to pinch, Oww.”

Trevor reached over to help ease the tension on the string. “Wow, you’re right; it’s trying to escape. Maybe we have too much wind for kite flying. I wonder if it went higher if the current would be ….”

The string broke with an unheard snap as the air whipped around them. The aeronauts watched their prized air toy drift off over the dunes.

Simone sniffled, and tears dotted her cheeks. “Let’s hope it doesn’t settle in Kansas. Is Boss going to be mad we lost the kite? It wasn’t our fault; I don’t think. Once you added the tail like a guide, the thing stopped spinning into the ground and just kept soaring.”

Trevor sighed, watching to see if the item might land nearby. “At least it wasn’t eaten by a kite-eating tree like…
